What it costs to pour a concrete slab in Austin, by source
Two sources publish Austin-specific slab prices, and they agree within a dollar or two per square foot. Use $6 to $11 as the working range for a plain reinforced slab and expect small jobs to land at the top of it. National figures are in the table for comparison and labelled as national.

Cost to pour a concrete slab by size
Most people search for a size, not a square-foot rate. Here are the common ones side by side. Rows marked computed multiply the area by that source's per-square-foot range because the source doesn't publish that size itself.
| Slab size | projectcosted Austin, 2026 | HomeBlue Austin, 2024 |
|---|---|---|
| 3x3 (9 sq ft) | not published | $100 to $180 |
| 5x5 (25 sq ft) | not published | $200 to $400 |
| 10x10 (100 sq ft) | $563 to $1,126 | $900 to $1,500 |
| 12x12 (144 sq ft) | $811 to $1,621 (computed) | $864 to $1,440 (computed) |
| 20x20 (400 sq ft) | $2,252 to $4,503 | $3,400 to $5,900 |
| 20x30 (600 sq ft) | $3,377 to $6,755 | $5,100 to $8,800 |
| 30x30 (900 sq ft) | $5,067 to $10,134 (computed) | $7,700 to $13,200 |
| 30x40 (1,200 sq ft) | $6,756 to $13,512 (computed) | $10,300 to $17,600 |
| 40x60 (2,400 sq ft) | $13,512 to $27,024 (computed) | $20,600 to $35,200 |

HomeBlue's sizes are 4 to 6 inch reinforced slabs. 12x12 computed rows use $5.63 to $11.26 and $6 to $10 per sq ft.
For a size not in the table, the Austin concrete slab calculator works out cubic yards and both Austin price ranges as you type.

Where the money goes on a slab quote
Labor is the biggest line. projectcosted's Austin breakdown for a 400 square foot slab puts labor at 50 percent, materials at 36 percent, site prep and equipment at 8 percent and overhead, disposal and finishing at 6 percent.
| Line item | Share | Amount on a typical $3,377 job |
|---|---|---|
| Labor: forming, placing, finishing | 50% | $1,689 |
| Materials: concrete, steel, base, forms | 36% | $1,216 |
| Site prep and equipment | 8% | $270 |
| Overhead, disposal and finishing | 6% | $203 |

Concrete by the yard
A cubic yard of 4 inch slab covers 81 square feet, so a 20x20 slab needs a little under 5 yards before waste. At HomeBlue's Austin ready-mix rate of $114 to $135 per yard, that is roughly $560 to $670 of concrete, before delivery charges, steel or labor.
What raises the cost to pour a slab in Austin
- Rock: in the Hill Country, the USDA's Eckrant soil has limestone 4 to 20 inches down, so beams and thickened edges may need a breaker
- Clay: on Houston Black clay, soft or swelling soil gets cut out and replaced with compacted base
- Tear-out: removing an old slab adds $1.10 to $1.70 per square foot on HomeBlue's Austin page
- Thickness and steel: going from 4 to 6 inches adds half again as much concrete, plus heavier rebar
- Access: a backyard with no truck access means a pump or a long wheelbarrow run
- Trees: work inside a protected tree's critical root zone is limited and needs City review
- Summer pours: early starts, chilled water or ice and extra curing materials
- Small size: minimum charges make a 4x4 pad cost far more per square foot than a 20x20

Costs that sit outside the slab price
A slab quote often leaves out the paperwork and the engineering. For a building, the engineer's foundation design and any soil report are separate fees, and a City of Austin building permit adds its own fees. projectcosted lists permits at about $450 in Texas as a general figure. Flatwork that stays on private property needs no City building permit, but a curb cut needs a Driveway/Sidewalk permit; the Austin slab permit guide has the details.
Cost to pour a concrete slab for common uses
The per-foot price is only the start. Each of these pages adds the sizes and specs for that job:
- Garage slab: thickened edges, slope to the door.
- Concrete shed pad: small, so minimum charges matter.
- Concrete patio: counts toward impervious cover.
- 30x40 and 40x60 shop slabs: the big-ticket sizes.
